TONDANO Lake

Lake Tondano is a very shallow Indonesian lake (max.depth: 20 m) with no distinctive features. It is silting up by 20 cm/year. It is draining through the river Tondano to the Mollucca Sea. Its stratification is weak (RTR 19.1). The total nitrogen values varied from 0.356-0.624 mg/l N, and total phosphorus values were undetectable. The lake is considered as mesotrophic lake with a transparency of 2.5 metres, which is affected also by other than phytoplankton turbidity. However, Giesen (1991) considers this lake as eutrophic lake.

Site Location
Danau Tondano is located on 37 km south of Manado. To reached the site use car/motorcycle until Tondano town.

GUNUNG LOKON Nature Reserve



The Gunung Lokon Nature Reserve comprises the area surrounding the active volcano Gunung Lokon (1,580 m). The reserve is 100 ha and lies in North Sulawesi province.
The reserve is mainly visited to climb the top of the mountain and to enjoy the great views from it. Gunung Lokon's peak is overgrown with Alang-alang, a result of regular fires due to volcanic activity and rat hunters burning the vegetation to find their prey. 600 meter under the top lies Gunung Lokon's crater. The deepblue lake that formerly filled the crater has disappeared after Lokon's last eruption. What's left are yellow sulphur pools and active fumaroles.

Amaizing color of Linow


Lake that has a knowledgeable around 34 hectares is unique because it has a high sulfur content and has a color change. This depends from the point of view of the lake and lighting. Around the lake there are endemic animals such as birds and thousands of insects blibis by the local residents called "sayok" or "komo". Unique insects that live in water but winged and can fly this become food for consumption by the local community.
This lake is located in the area of Minahasa, North Sulawesi, or more precisely entry Tomohon district territory.

TANGKOKO Nature Reserve






Tangkoko Nature Reserve is located at Bitung City, 65 km from Manado. Tangkoko is a 9,000 hectare nature reserve that has attracted naturalists, researchers, scientists and nature lovers from around the world.

Bunaken National Park is very representative of Indonesian tropical water ecosystems, consisting of seagrass plain, coral reef, and land/coastal ecosystems.

The northern part of the Park area covers the islands of Bunaken, Manado Tua, Montehage, Siladen, Nain and Nain Kecil, and part of the Tanjung Pisok coastal area. The southern part of the Park covers part of the Tanjung Kelapa coast.On land, these islands are rich in species of palm, sagu, woka, silar and coconut. Among the animal species that live on the land and the beaches are black-crested macaques (Macaca nigra nigra), Timor deer (Cervus timorensis russa), and bear-cuscus (Ailurops ursinus ursinus).

Thirteen species of coral have been recorded in the waters of the Park, dominated by fringing reef coral and barrier reef coral. An interesting feature is the 25-50 metre vertical coral wall which is inhabited by 13 coral genus.
There are five islands in the Park where visitors can enjoy diving, snorkelling and marine tours.

Cultural attractions outside the Park include the Anniversary of Manado in July and Menulude in January, in Manado.

Best time of year to visit: May to August.
